rj-149-brazil-road-sign-color-changing-mug-11oz
RJ-149 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Color Changing Mug 11oz

RJ-149 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Color Changing Mug 11oz

A pentagonal route shield, bold and flat, marks the state road RJ-149 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Visual Elements & Composition

White dominates the design, covering roughly seven-tenths of the surface, with black taking most of the rest and a thin band of grey adding a quiet edge. A single pentagonal shield sits centred on the wrap with no background clutter. The letters RJ stand above the numerals 149 in heavy black type that reads clearly from across a table. Everything is flat vector work, with no shading or texture to pull the eye away from the sign.

Meaning & Symbolism

Route shields are the language of the road, a shape and a code that tell a driver exactly where they are. Here that system is stripped to its essentials, so the designation becomes the whole message. Rio de Janeiro's state routes carry the RJ prefix, and the artwork honours that regional identity through its everyday signage rather than its landmarks. The minimalist treatment keeps the attention on the code itself, which is the point of the piece.

Made for the Hand That Turns It

A mug is turned in the hand, so the shield travels around the curve as you rotate it, one clean sign meeting you at every angle. The design is also a reveal: as a hot drink is poured in, the sign surfaces from the cold surface, so the route appears as the morning warms up. It is a gift for someone who has driven a long road, or who keeps a little Brazil close to home, and the sign lands just as well on a desk as on a kitchen counter.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/rj-149-brazil-road-sign-color-changing-mug-11oz-GMY-MUG-RJ149-11OZ-1FRD3-front.webp?v=1793844115
