Its identity rests on the name RJ-218 and the Brazil subject, with the road sign format giving the piece a bold, signage-like presence. Nothing competes with the central idea, so the eye settles on the subject at once.

Meaning & Symbolism

The work draws on regional symbolism, using Brazil as its organising theme. Its numeral identifier, RJ-218, gives it the structured, catalogue-like quality of a series piece, the kind of artwork collectors and enthusiasts of regional graphic design look for. The design's mood is neutral, so its meaning is carried by subject and context rather than by emotion.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A tall vessel asks to be read as it is lifted, and this design suits that movement. As the glass turns in the hand, the Brazil motif passes across the curve in one continuous sweep, so the artwork is seen in motion rather than in a single flat view. It is a considered pairing: a regional graphic for the person who likes to hold a little Brazil while they pour.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/rj-218-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-RJ218-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793751781
