seal-of-the-united-provinces-of-the-rio-de-la-plata-white-coffee-mug
Seal of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata - White Coffee Mug

Seal of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata - White Coffee Mug

This is a faithful reproduction of the official seal of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata, an emblem of state authority drawn in the flat, confident style of 1813.

Visual Elements & Composition

The design is built around an oval seal, with an inner field that holds the emblem at its centre. Brick red dominates the composition, more than half of its surface, framed by slate blue, white, olive green and tan. Within the field sit a rising sun with a face, a red liberty cap raised on a pike, a pair of clasped hands and a laurel wreath. Around the rim, the lettering reads ASAMBLE, CONSTIT, PROV, UNIDAS, DEL, PLATA and the date 1813, with the fragments G, D and L marking the wording of the legend.

Meaning & Symbolism

Every element was chosen to carry a idea of the new state. The sun with a face is the rising republic, the liberty cap on a pike stands for freedom, and the clasped hands signal union among the provinces. The laurel wreath speaks to victory and civic honour. The seal belongs to the Assembly of the Year XIII, the 1813 gathering that sought to give the provinces a shared government, so the date at its base anchors the whole design in that moment of South American political history.

Made for the Hand That Holds the Mug

A mug is turned slowly in the hands, so the seal reveals itself in pieces: the sun first, then the cap, then the clasped hands as the handle comes round. Its symmetry means the emblem reads cleanly from the front, and the lettering runs around the curve for the reader who turns it. It makes a considered gift for anyone who keeps a bit of history on the kitchen counter.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/seal-of-the-united-provinces-of-the-rio-de-la-plata-white-coffee-mug-11oz-position1.webp?v=1768257874
https://gomugyourself.com/products/seal-of-the-united-provinces-of-the-rio-de-la-plata-white-coffee-mug
