Red, blue and orange appear in smaller accents, picking out the Russian flag and the rocket's exhaust. A rocket launches upward at the centre, with a mountain silhouette below and scattered stars filling the space above. Around the rim, the Cyrillic text СОЮЗ TM 16 names the craft, and the crew names, Г МАНАКОВ and А ПОЛЕЩУК, sit beneath it.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Soyuz spacecraft belongs to one of the longest-running crewed spaceflight programmes in history, first flown by the Soviet Union and later operated by Russia. Its designation, TM-16, marks a specific mission to the Mir space station, which is spelled out in the badge as МИР. That word also means "peace" and "world" in Russian, giving the emblem a second meaning beyond the station's name. The 1990s styling, with its bold flat shapes and patch-like composition, reflects the look of mission insignia from that period.

On the Color Morphing Mug

A mug is held and turned in the hand, so the badge reads as a circle you keep rotating toward yourself, with the rocket rising as you lift the cup. The design's strongest colours sit where your eye lands first, and the crew names are close enough to read in the moment you pick it up. Pour in something warm and the mug's surface changes, bringing the mission's markings into view as a small reveal for the morning coffee ritual.
