A circular frame holds the whole scene, and the rocket rises from the lower mountain line toward the upper stars. The lettering reads СОЮЗ TM 16 across the top, МИР for the station, and the two crew surnames, Г. ПОЛЕЩУК, at the base.

Meaning & Symbolism

Mission patches of this kind carry a crew's name, a destination and a launch, and this one follows that convention. The rocket stands for the launch itself, the mountain for the Baikonur launch landscape and the stars for the orbital flight that followed. The Russian flag colours and the Cyrillic lettering place the badge within the post-Soviet Soyuz programme, and the crew names identify the two cosmonauts who flew the mission to МИР.

Reading the Badge on Glass

A pint glass has a tall, curved body, so the circular badge sits across one face of the vessel and the rocket seems to rise as you lift the glass. The frosted matte surface softens the white and black fields into a calm ground, and lets the red and blue accents show through the print with a gentle glow.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/soyuz-tm-16-soyuz-space-programme-frosted-pint-glass-16oz-default-title-position1.webp?v=1760830172
