An inner border follows the outline of the shield, and a trace of light grey softens the transition between the two. The lettering is set in a single stacked block, SP over 57, so the shield reads as one compact emblem.

Meaning & Symbolism

The SP 57 shield is a state highway marker from Brazil, and the piece takes the language of transport signage as its subject. Route shields are the way a long road is identified in pieces, so a single number tells you which corridor you are on. The design celebrates that quiet system of navigation and the regional geography it connects.

Turning the Shape in Hand

A mug is turned in the hand as it is drunk from, so the pentagon moves around the curve of the body with each rotation. The stacked lettering stays easy to follow from the handle side, and the inner border keeps the shield's outline clear as the cup turns.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-057-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-SP057-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793830617
