The designation SP-114 is the central text, and the Brazil theme runs through the piece as its organising idea. Nothing sits around the sign to distract from it, so the lettering and the sign's outline do all the work. The layout is direct and legible, the way a route marker is meant to be read at a glance.

Meaning & Symbolism

The "SP" prefix follows the format Brazilian state highways use to identify roads within São Paulo state, and the number that follows marks a specific route in that network. A road marker is a practical symbol: it tells a traveller where they are and which way the road runs. Here that function is carried into a design that points to Brazil and to the everyday geography of its roads, rather than to any single landmark.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is lifted, tilted and turned in the hand while a drink is stirred, so the artwork is seen in motion and from several angles rather than all at once. A road sign suits that kind of handling. Its marker reads clearly as the glass turns, and its single focal point stays in view whether the glass is held upright or tipped toward the light.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-114-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP114-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793737008
