The "(Brazil)" and "(Road Sign)" labels in the title frame the artwork as a Brazilian road sign rather than a generic motif. The layout is simple and direct, with the identifier as the dominant element and no extra decoration competing with it. The overall effect is clean and graphic, with the lettering doing the work that imagery would do elsewhere.

Meaning & Symbolism

Road signs are a language of direction. They tell a traveller where they are and which way the road runs, and the SP prefix and numeral follow the route-numbering system used on Brazilian highways. Brazil itself, the subject of the design, brings a sense of distance and journey to the sign: a route that crosses landscapes, towns and long stretches of open road. The artwork turns that everyday signage into a quiet nod to travel and place.

Why It Suits This Glass

A pint glass is a tall, curved surface, and a road sign is a flat, rectangular one. Set on the glass, the sign wraps around the curve, so the route number is read as you turn the glass in your hand and the lettering shifts with the light. Each sip brings the design round to the front again, which suits a piece meant to be picked up and used often. For someone who has a favourite road, a favourite trip or a fondness for Brazil, the sign is a small, easily missed pleasure that turns up every time the glass is lifted.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-125-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP125-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793689234
