The double border runs inside the pentagon's edge and gives the outline a little more weight than a single stroke would. SP and 161 are set in the centre, with the letters above the numerals, and the shape fills the frame so the marker is the only thing the eye reads.

Meaning & Symbolism

SP is the state code for São Paulo, and 161 is the route designation the marker carries on the state network. Pentagonal shields of this kind are part of the signage Brazilian drivers see on their highways, so the artwork is best understood as a record of a working road sign rather than a stylised emblem.

Life on the Mug

A mug is a surface that moves in the hand, and a single bold shape keeps its message intact as the cup turns. The double border reads as a clear frame from the handle side and from the front alike, so the marker stays recognisable whichever way the mug is held.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-161-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-SP161-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793832640
