Lettering and numerals carry the piece, so the typography does the work that imagery would do elsewhere. Nothing competes with the code, which keeps the sign easy to read at a glance.

Meaning & Symbolism

Road signs are a country's shorthand for place. A route number tells you where you are and where a road leads. SP-175 is a route within the road network of the state of São Paulo, and the Brazil lettering anchors that route to the nation as a whole. The design takes an everyday object of travel and turns it into a clear statement of regional identity, one that signals its origin without needing a word of explanation.

On the Mixing Glass

A road sign is usually read from a distance, but this design is read in the hand. The glass is tall and tapers toward the base, so the sign wraps a long curved surface, and the code runs around the vessel as it is turned. Give it to someone whose travels took them down a Brazilian road, and the sign will do the remembering.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-175-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP175-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793737946
