The numerals and lettering are the only text, and they carry the design on their own. Nothing competes with the designation, so the eye goes straight to the code, the way a driver reads a route marker at a junction.

Meaning & Symbolism

In Brazilian road numbering, the "SP" prefix identifies a road within the state of São Paulo, the country's most populous state, and the number locates the route within that network. Road markers like this one are the everyday language of travel, linking towns, farms and cities across a large territory. The design honours that system by making a single route into a regional emblem, one that speaks to anyone who has driven, commuted or grown up along it.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is a tall, curved vessel that is lifted and tilted in the hand, so its surface is seen in motion rather than from a fixed distance. The sign wraps around that curve, and as the glass turns, the route number comes into view and drifts out again, much like a sign glimpsed from a passing car. Whether it is poured into or raised for a toast, the artwork stays in front of the drinker from start to finish.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-226-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP226-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793690906
