The text SP-252 and the word Brazil carry the design, so the lettering does the work that a pictorial scene would do elsewhere. The layout is direct and sign-like, with the designation given the most weight and the country name sitting alongside it as a secondary line. Nothing is decorative for its own sake, which suits the plain, functional language of road signage.

Meaning & Symbolism

SP-252 is a state highway in São Paulo, the Brazilian state whose code is SP. Road designations like this one are how travellers, drivers and local communities name and find their way across a region, so the artwork stands for a real place on a real network rather than an abstract idea. Choosing the road sign as the form ties the design to that everyday practice of navigation, and the Brazil reference anchors it to a specific country.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A road sign is read at a glance, and this glass invites the same quick reading. The design sits on a tall, curved surface that you see whole as you turn it in the hand, so the code and country name come into view in one sweep rather than piece by piece. It makes a fitting companion for anyone who has a favourite drive, a home region they miss, or a route that means something to them, and it turns a simple drinks vessel into a small piece of travel memorabilia.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-252-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP252-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793691226
