The shield sits centred and upright, with nothing competing around it. The letters SP sit above the numerals 253 in bold black lettering, so the sign reads at a glance. The style is minimalist and graphic, built from clean edges and solid fills rather than shading or texture.

Meaning & Symbolism

A route shield is a navigational signal. Its shape, its border and its code tell a driver which road they are on and where it leads. Here, SP identifies the state of São Paulo, and 253 is the number of the highway within the state's network. Brazilian state routes are signed this way, so the design borrows the everyday language of the country's roads to speak for its regional identity. It is a quiet tribute, rooted in the working infrastructure that connects people to places.

Shaped for the Hand

A mug is turned in the hand and read from every angle as you drink, so the sign's pentagon has room to wrap around the curve and stay whole from the handle side. The design is also a clever match for this object: the black and white lettering stays hidden while the mug is cold, then appears as a hot drink is poured in, so the route marker is revealed slowly, the way a road reveals itself one bend at a time. It makes a cheeky conversation starter for anyone who loves a good road trip or a bit of Brazilian character with their morning coffee.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-253-brazil-road-sign-color-changing-mug-11oz-GMY-MUG-SP253-11OZ-1FQMW-front.webp?v=1793841388
