The sign's numerals and code sit at the centre of the composition, so the eye goes straight to SP-273 before anything else. Nothing decorative competes with it. The layout is plain and direct, with the lettering doing the work of the image, and the result reads as a formal, orderly graphic.

Meaning & Symbolism

A road sign is a piece of public information, and this design borrows that language to name a place. The SP prefix and the number follow the pattern of Brazilian state road designations, which is why the piece works as a cataloged entry as much as a picture. Read together, the code and the national reference make Brazil the subject: a country seen through the way its roads are labelled and navigated.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A road sign is read at a glance, and this glass suits that. Its tall, clear sides give the design a continuous field to sit on, so the sign stays visible from every angle as the glass is lifted and turned. The same piece serves as a shaker and as an ordinary serving glass, so the design comes out whenever the glass is in use, whether it is mixing a drink or setting one down. It is a sensible match: a directional sign on an object that is constantly picked up and carried.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-273-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP273-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793691602
