The route number SP-284 is the main text and carries the most visual weight, with Brazil set alongside it as the identifying line. Nothing competes with that pairing. The layout is direct and uncluttered, so the sign reads at a glance, the way a driver would take in a marker passing at speed.

Meaning & Symbolism

Route numbers are how a road network tells you where you are. SP-284 is a state-road designation from Brazil, and the code points to a specific road in a specific region rather than to a general idea of the country. Pairing that designation with the name Brazil ties the sign to a real route, giving the artwork its meaning as a marker of place and of the way people navigate between towns.

Lifting the Sign onto a Mixing Glass

A sign on a mixing glass is a sign that gets handled. The design wraps around a tall, curved surface, so the route number is read as the glass is lifted and turned, with the lettering moving across the eye as the vessel changes hands. It is a small piece of roadside design brought to the bar cart, a conversation starter for anyone who has ever followed a number like this one across a map.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-284-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP284-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793691807
