The serial designation SP-311 and the word Brazil carry the whole composition, with no added illustration or decorative border pulling attention away. Nothing competes with the lettering, so the eye moves straight from the code to the country and back. The restraint is the point: the design looks like a sign that has been stripped down to what it needs to say.

Meaning & Symbolism

The title's "(Road Sign)" tells you what kind of object this is meant to echo. Road markers exist to identify a route and its place, and this design does the same job, pairing a numbered designation with a named region. The "SP" element refers to São Paulo, one of Brazil's states, so the code points to a specific place within the country rather than to Brazil as a whole. The piece belongs to a wider thematic collection of geographic and cataloguing designs, where a short code and a place name are enough to say what they mean.

On the Mixing Glass

A pint-sized glass is held at the side and turned as it is poured, so the lettering is read in passing rather than studied head on. The design suits that kind of glance. The code and the country name sit where a hand naturally rests, and the simple layout keeps the message legible each time the glass is lifted. It works like a roadside marker that you pass every time you reach for a drink.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-311-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP311-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793741436
