sp-319-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz
SP-319 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

SP-319 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

This design takes the form of a road sign, with the designation SP-319 setting out the Brazilian highway it names.

Visual Elements & Composition

The composition is built around the sign itself, with its route code SP-319 and the word Brazil as the two text elements the viewer reads first. The code carries the weight of the piece: the letters and numerals are the main subject, and nothing is placed to compete with them. The layout stays direct and centred, the way a road sign is designed to be read at a glance from a moving vehicle.

Meaning & Symbolism

In Brazil, road designations follow a state-based system, and the SP prefix marks a route within the state of São Paulo. The sign therefore stands for a specific route rather than a general idea of the country. The design's themes of national identity and regional culture come through that local detail: a road number is one of the most ordinary ways a place identifies itself, and the artwork turns that everyday marker into a souvenir of a particular stretch of Brazilian road.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is lifted, tilted and poured, so the design is seen in motion rather than from across a room. As the glass turns in the hand, the sign passes in and out of view, and the route code reappears each time the vessel is set back down. The design suits an object that is handled this closely, and the sign's plain, legible lettering reads clearly at that short distance.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-319-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP319-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793744086
