SP sits above the route number 331, both set in bold black type and centred inside the shape. White makes up the great majority of the area, and the layout is spare and symmetrical, drawn in a flat vector style with no shading.

Meaning & Symbolism

SP is the standard abbreviation for São Paulo, the most populous of Brazil's states, and 331 is the number of this route. Shields of this form are how a driver confirms a road without reading a map, and the design keeps that function in plain view. It stands for the highways that thread through the state's cities, farmland and industrial districts.

Reading the Shield on the Mug

A mug is turned in the hand, so the pentagon passes across the eye in a slow arc, and its outline holds together as the cup rotates. The high contrast of black on white keeps the SP and 331 readable both across a table and up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-331-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-SP331-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793832883
