The numerals and letters of "SP-406" carry the image, with "Brazil" naming the country the sign belongs to. There is no ornament and no scenery, so the eye lands on the code first and the place second, the same order a driver reads a sign.

Meaning & Symbolism

In Brazil, the "SP" prefix marks a route in the state of São Paulo, the country's most populous state, and the numbering ties each road to its region. Road signs of this kind are the everyday language of travel. They tell you where you are and where a road leads, which gives the design its quiet meaning of direction and belonging. Its significance is practical and local rather than decorative.

On the Mixing Glass

A road sign is read at a glance, and this mixing glass gives it the same treatment. The design sits in plain view on the side as you pour, and the single centred designation reads clearly from across a table. The glass narrows toward its base, so the route code stands upright on a clean vertical field, the way a sign stands by a road. It makes a cheeky gift for someone who has ever argued about directions on a road trip through São Paulo.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-406-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP406-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793729819
