sp-414-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz
SP-414 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

SP-414 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

This design takes its form from a road sign, and its name tells you exactly where it belongs: SP-414 is a highway designation in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, and the artwork builds its whole identity around that code.

Visual Elements & Composition

The composition is plain and direct. The designation SP-414 sits at the centre of the piece as the dominant element, with the word Brazil set alongside it to anchor the design to its country. Nothing competes for attention. The layout reads the way a route marker does: a single identifier, clearly set, with no decoration pulling the eye away from it.

Meaning & Symbolism

Road markers like this one are how a traveller finds their way, so the design carries the idea of journeys and place. SP-414 stands for a real stretch of road in one of Brazil's most populous states, and the piece asks you to see a route as a sign of somewhere specific rather than just a line on a map. It is a geographic artwork in the truest sense: the code is the subject.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A tall, narrow vessel gives the design a continuous curve to follow. Turned in the hand, the sign's single line of text passes across the glass as the surface rotates, so the identifier reads in pieces, the way a sign does when you drive past it. The tapered base keeps the design close to the hand, which suits a piece of graphic work that rewards a second look. It is a small object for a road-trip mindset, and a fitting way to keep a distant stretch of Brazil in view.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-414-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP414-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793735421
