The road code SP-429 is the central element, and the Brazil reference frames it. Nothing competes with the code, so the eye goes straight to the numerals and the lettering. The layout is direct and uncluttered, as a road marker should be.

Meaning & Symbolism

The "SP" prefix identifies a state highway in São Paulo, the most populous state in Brazil, and the number places this route within that network. A road sign is a practical symbol: it tells travellers where they are and where a route leads. Here that function is carried into the design, so the artwork stands for the act of navigating a particular Brazilian road and for the wider geography and culture the name points to.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A road sign is read at a glance, and this artwork works the same way on a glass. The design sits on a tall, curving surface that you turn in the hand, so the lettering passes into view as the glass moves, the way a driver catches a sign at speed. It makes a good conversation starter for anyone who has travelled the roads of Brazil, or who simply wants a bold, graphic piece with a story behind its numbers. The sign and the glass share one job: to point the way.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-429-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP429-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793721986
