sp-495-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz
SP-495 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

SP-495 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

SP-495 takes its subject from a road sign, and that single idea of a route marked out in Brazil is what the design is built around.

Visual Elements & Composition

The design is organised around its name. The letters SP and the numerals 495 sit at the centre of the composition as the main typographic statement, with the word Brazil anchoring the identity of the piece. Nothing competes with that lettering. The layout is plain and direct, so the eye reads the code first and the country second, the way a driver reads a sign at speed.

Meaning & Symbolism

In Brazil, the SP prefix marks a highway in the state of São Paulo, the most populous state in the country and its industrial heart. Brazilian federal and state roads are numbered in this way, so a code like SP-495 works as an address for a specific stretch of road rather than a decorative flourish. The design honours that system of travel and place, the sense that a country is understood through the routes that connect its towns and regions.

Designed for the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is a tall, curved vessel that lives in the hand, tipped and turned with every pour. The lettering wraps around that curve as you lift it, so the code and the country read in pieces as the glass moves, much as a road sign reveals itself as you approach. It makes a good conversation starter for anyone who has ever driven a long road and wondered where it leads, and it suits a gift for a traveller, a Brazil enthusiast, or someone who collects things with a story behind them.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-495-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP495-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793719726
