The lettering and numerals of the code SP-498 are the main text, and the word "Brazil" anchors the design to its subject. Nothing is layered on top of the sign, so the eye goes straight to the code and the route it marks.

Meaning & Symbolism

The "SP" prefix follows the highway numbering used in the state of São Paulo, the most populous state in Brazil. A road sign in this format stands for navigation, distance and the everyday business of getting from one place to another. Taken together, the code and the country turn an ordinary piece of roadside infrastructure into a small, specific map reference for Brazilian travel and geography.

Reading the Sign on a Tall Glass

A tall glass gives a road sign room to be read as it turns in the hand, the way a driver reads a sign as the road bends. The design sits on a curved surface, so the code appears and disappears as the glass moves, much like a route seen in passing. Whether the glass is used for stirring a drink or for an evening spent at the table, the sign stays in view and keeps its message: this is the road to Brazil.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-498-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP498-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793719899
