The SP-500 designation takes up the centre of the frame, with no competing ornament pulling the eye away from it. Its lettering and numerals are the dominant visual element, and the surrounding space is kept open, so the identifier reads at a glance, the way a sign is meant to be read from a moving vehicle.

Meaning & Symbolism

The "SP" prefix marks a road within São Paulo state, one of Brazil's federal states, and the number places this route within that state's network. The "Brazil" and "Road Sign" references in the title tie the design to a specific regional road system, where designations like this guide travellers between towns and cities. The artwork takes that working code and presents it as a subject in its own right, celebrating the everyday language of the road.

On the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is held close and turned in the hand, and its tapering wall gives the design a continuous curved surface to wrap around. Each time the glass is lifted, the SP-500 designation passes across the eye in a steady rhythm, which suits a sign built to be read in passing. It makes a warm, slightly cheeky gift for anyone who has ever followed a route number across a map and wondered where it leads.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-500-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP500-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793720012
