A single sign form sits at the centre of the frame with nothing competing for attention, and the lettering does most of the work. The designation SP-535 is the focal text, with Brazil set alongside it to name the country. Their pairing mirrors the way signage is laid out in practice: a route code first, then the place it belongs to.

Meaning & Symbolism

The road sign is a symbol of navigation and orientation, the kind of marker that tells a traveller where they are and where the road leads. Taking the Brazilian road-sign format as its source, the artwork carries that sense of place into a neutral, conceptual setting. The SP prefix and numeral identify a specific route rather than a general idea of travel, so the design is about being located precisely, not about wandering.

Built for the Hand

A tall, curved vessel asks to be turned as it is lifted, and this artwork is built for that movement. As the glass rotates in the hand, the sign passes across the curved surface in sequence, so the designation reads in parts and then resolves whole. It is a quiet, cheeky joke for anyone who has ever followed a sign to the wrong place and still arrived somewhere good.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-535-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP535-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793732602
