sp-569-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz
SP-569 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

SP-569 (Brazil) (Road Sign) Pint Glass 16oz

This design turns a Brazilian road sign into a piece of drinkware, with the sign's name and format at the centre of the image.

Visual Elements & Composition

The artwork is built around a road sign, a format that announces itself through its bounded panel and its lettering. The designation SP-569 and the word Brazil carry the composition, so the eye goes straight to the label rather than to any decoration around it. Nothing is added beyond what the sign itself needs to say.

Meaning & Symbolism

The SP prefix is the abbreviation for São Paulo, the Brazilian state, and road designations of this kind are how its routes are identified on the map. The sign therefore stands for a specific place and a specific route, not for Brazil in general. Its subject is geographic: a way through a particular region, named so that a traveller can find it. The original artwork belongs to the SP-569 Brazil series, and this reproduction keeps that focus on a single place and its road.

Turning a Sign Into a Glass

A mixing glass is a tall, slightly tapered vessel that sits in the hand and is tipped as it is poured, so the design wraps a curved surface rather than a flat panel. Each time the glass is lifted, the sign shifts across the eye, which suits an artwork whose job is to be read at a glance. Pick it up and the road is always in view.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-569-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP569-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793700031
