sp-615-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug
SP-615 (Brazil) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

SP-615 (Brazil) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

A pentagonal route shield with an inner black border, showing the letters SP over the number 615 on a white field.

Visual Elements & Composition

The graphic is built from a single pentagon and the lettering inside it, rendered flat with no shading. White covers the great majority of the frame, about six-sevenths of it, and black is kept to the border and the type. SP sits on the upper part of the shield and 615 beneath, both upright and centred. The restraint of the layout means the shape and its numerals are all the viewer receives.

Meaning & Symbolism

Brazilian state highways are marked with a two-letter code for the state responsible for them. SP is the abbreviation for São Paulo, the most populous state, and 615 is this route's number within its network. The shield stands for wayfinding, the repeated sign that tells a traveller they are on a particular road. Its clean, modern drawing reflects the way present-day transport signs are designed.

Carried Close

A mug is held at the lip and turned, so the route shield is seen at close range and in quick passing glances. The inner border keeps the outline sharp as the curved wall of the cup takes part of it out of sight. Bold, uncluttered numerals stay legible from a short distance, which suits a vessel that sits within arm's reach for most of the working day.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-615-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-SP615-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793831655
