The road sign format sets a clear, upright frame, and the design keeps its attention on the central motif rather than spreading it across the surface. The SP-656 designation sits within the artwork as a code, giving the piece the plain, catalogue-like character of a signpost.

Meaning & Symbolism

The design belongs to the themes of Brazil, geography and culture. A road sign is a device for orientation, telling a traveller where they are and where they are heading, and here that function is tied to a specific country. The artwork treats Brazil as a place to be located and identified, with its geography and culture standing for the country as a whole.

Reading the Sign on a Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is handled close to the body, lifted, tilted and turned while the drink is stirred or poured, so the design is seen in motion rather than from across a room. The sign format suits that kind of handling: as the glass turns in the hand, the signpost comes round into view, pointing the way to Brazil with every pour. It is a fitting choice for anyone who likes their cocktails with a sense of place.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-656-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP656-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793701252
