The pentagon's outline sits close to the edge, and the two lines of text are set centre-aligned inside it. "SP" is the smaller line on top, and "798" carries the weight below. The result is flat, high-contrast and easy to read from a distance, with no imagery beyond the sign itself.

Meaning & Symbolism

The design follows the look of a Brazilian state highway marker. SP is the abbreviation for the state of São Paulo, and 798 is the route number that identifies the road. A marker like this works by code rather than by name, so the artwork is about navigation and place, the small plate that tells a driver which road they are on.

Turned in the Hand

A mug is held and turned while it is read, so the pentagon will be seen from different angles as the cup moves. The text sits in the centre of the wrap, where it is most visible when the mug is lifted for a drink. The sharp corners and straight edges of the marker stand out well against the curved surface of the cup.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-798-brazil-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-SP798-11OZ-front.webp?v=1793831151
