Its layout is simple and frontal, so the sign reads at a glance, as signage is meant to. The alphanumeric designation SP-939 carries the visual weight, giving the artwork its identity and its sense of place.

Meaning & Symbolism

The "SP" prefix marks a state road in São Paulo, the most populous state in Brazil, and the number identifies one specific route within that network. A road sign is a promise of direction and connection, and this design turns that everyday signal into a souvenir of a particular Brazilian journey. Its theme is Brazil, and its subject is the road that the sign designates.

On the Mixing Glass

A road sign suits a glass well because both are read from the side and at a glance. The design wraps around the curved body of the vessel, so the route is seen as you turn the glass in your hand, and the numeral reappears from each angle. It is a quiet conversation piece for anyone who has ever followed a road like this one, and a fitting gift for a friend who has.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-939-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP939-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793699321
