The name carries the layout: a regional prefix followed by a route number, set in the order a driver or navigator would read it.

Meaning & Symbolism

The SP prefix follows the Brazilian convention of marking state roads with their state's abbreviation, here São Paulo. Route numbering of this kind turns a stretch of road into a point on a map, so the design stands for navigation and place rather than decoration. It is a record of how Brazil's road network is identified and found.

Made for the Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is handled close and tilted, so a sign shown on its side reads in pieces as the glass turns in the hand. The route code is the part that holds attention through each turn, which suits a piece meant for a bar cart or a gift for someone who has a favourite road to remember. Give it to a friend who plans trips by their own map of Brazil and let the number do the talking.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-980-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP980-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793693290
