A single road-sign motif carries the design, and the artwork gives that one subject the whole field, so nothing competes with it. The sign format does the work of the layout: it reads quickly, at a glance, the way a roadside marker does from a passing car.

Meaning & Symbolism

A road sign is a promise of place. It tells you where you are, what lies ahead, and which direction to take. Here that idea is tied to Brazil, a country whose identity is bound up with geography and culture, the two themes this design is catalogued under. The artwork treats Brazil as a destination worth pointing toward, and it is the sign's job to make that destination the whole message.

Reading the Sign on a Mixing Glass

A mixing glass is tall and held close, often turned slowly in the hand as a drink is stirred and poured. The road-sign motif suits that rotation: the design travels around a curved, upright surface, so the sign appears and disappears as the glass moves, the way a marker does along a route. Each time it comes back into view, the message is the same, pointing to Brazil.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/sp-983-brazil-road-sign-pint-glass-16oz-GMY-MIXI-SP983-16OZ-front.webp?v=1793693400
