tw-thwtt45-taiwan-road-sign-white-coffee-mug
TW THWtt45 (Taiwan) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

TW THWtt45 (Taiwan) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

This design takes the look of a road route marker and turns it into a small, sharp piece of signage for your morning cup.

Visual Elements & Composition

The palette is pure black and white, with white covering most of the field and black providing the structure. A rounded rectangular border frames the whole composition, and a rectangular frame sits within it, giving the layout the discipline of a signboard. The centre is occupied by the Chinese character 東 and the numerals 45, which together form the focal point. Nothing competes with them. The flat vector drawing has no shading or decoration, so the eye lands on the character and the numbers straight away.

Meaning & Symbolism

The character 東 means east, and the numerals 45 identify the route, the two elements working together the way a sign does on a highway: one gives direction, the other gives the number to follow. The design draws on Taiwanese route-marker signage, and the TW abbreviation in its identifier ties it directly to Taiwan. It reads as modern signage, clean and functional, with the pared-back minimalism of a sign meant to be read at a glance.

Turning the Artwork in Your Hands

A mug is held close and turned as you drink, so the sign never sits still. Each quarter turn brings a fresh view of the frame and the character, as though you are passing a marker on a long drive. It makes a good conversation starter for anyone who has travelled Taiwan's roads, and a playful nod to the gift-giver's own sense of direction. Pour the first coffee of the day and let the route lead the way.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/tw-thwtt45-taiwan-road-sign-white-coffee-mug-GMY-MUG-TWTHW-11OZ-1FJKX-front.webp?v=1793903986
