The design is a miniature rendition of the district's armorial flag, a vibrant representation of local heritage.

Design Elements

The artwork faithfully recreates the square-shaped flag's central coat of arms. The shield is bisected vertically, creating two distinct fields. The viewer’s left side is gold (yellow), while the viewer’s right side is red.

The gold (yellow) field features a red bar positioned in the upper third, and below it, a red bell. This color scheme and inclusion of the red bar are derived from the historic heraldry of the Stift Münster, signifying the region’s historical ties.

The red field is populated with a standing bishop, dressed in silver (white). He is depicted giving a blessing and holding his staff. At his feet stands a gold (yellow) goose. The bishop and goose symbolize St. Ludger, the first bishop of Münster.

Symbolism

The overall design is deeply rooted in local history and symbolism. The colors and the red bar are inherited directly from the arms of the Bishopric of Münster, reflecting the area's historical allegiance.

The bishop and the goose are key elements. St. Ludger, the first Bishop of Münster, is connected with a legend involving geese, which is why the goose appears as his attribute. This combination of colors and symbols is designed to provide a rich visual narrative of the region.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0703/5204/4312/files/wappenflagge-kreis-coesfeld-1956-germany-shot-glass-15oz-15oz-position1.webp?v=1768317308
