The rounded rectangle is the frame, and the composition is centred and typography-driven. The street name Knickerbocker sits on the upper line, with CR and the numeral 108 below it. The text does all the work, so the layout is plain, legible and close in spirit to the street signs found in small New York towns.

Meaning & Symbolism

Street-name signs tell people where they are, and a county route marker shows how that local street fits into the wider road network. Here the name Knickerbocker and the CR 108 tag come from Wayne County, New York, so the design carries a sense of place at two scales at once. It is a quiet piece of local Americana, built from the signs people pass every day.

Life on the Mug

A mug is turned in the hand, so the sign comes into view as it rotates, with the street name appearing first and the route marker after it. The white ceramic ground keeps the forest green panel crisp, and the text sits at eye level when the mug is lifted for a morning cup.

https://gomugyourself.com/products/wayne-county-108-ny-blade-sign-new-york-road-sign-white-coffee-mug
