The inverted triangle pennant dominates the centre, its outline sitting inside a thin border. The numerals 00 and the lettering STATE TRUNK HIGHWAY and the letters W, I and S are set in flat, high-contrast forms with no shading or gradients. The layout is symmetrical and drawn in simple vector shapes, so the sign reads at a glance even from across a kitchen counter.

Meaning & Symbolism

State trunk highway markers were the signposts that told drivers which main routes they were on, and the triangular pennant became a shorthand for Wisconsin's road network. The name of this design points to a 1919 template, so the shape reflects the early era of numbered state routes, when travellers needed clear, uniform markers to navigate the country by car. The mug carries that identity forward as a nod to Wisconsin's motoring history and the practical graphics that once lined its highways.

Shaped for the Mug

A mug is held and turned in the hand, so the sign has to hold its own across a curved surface. The triangle sits upright on the front face and the route number stays legible as the cup is rotated, which suits a design built on strong, simple lines. It makes a quiet talking point for anyone who has ever followed a numbered route across the state.
