The 106th Infantry Division is a formation within the United States Army, historically active during World War II and the Cold War era. Originally activated on March 15, 1943, at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, it was initially assigned to the Ground Forces of the U.S. First Army before being deployed overseas. During World War II, the division participated in numerous major campaigns, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. Post-WWII, the 106th Infantry Division was deactivated, only to be reactivated in 1957 during the Cold War as a part of the U.S. Army National Guard. The division is recognized for its service and contributions to the United States military history.
