The 10th Armored Division is a historic armored formation of the United States Army. It was first activated on March 15, 1942, during World War II as part of the U.S. ground forces' preparation for the European theater. Known as "The Screaming Eagle," the division was heavily involved in key battles such as Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, it was deactivated on November 16, 1945. In 1983, the 10th Armored Division was reconstituted in the Organized Reserve Component as part of the U.S. Army National Guard. The division is headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky, and its components are stationed across several states. Despite being primarily a reserve unit, elements of the 10th Armored Division have been mobilized for various operations, including supporting peacekeeping missions, humanitarian aid, and counter-drug efforts. Throughout its history, the 10th Armored Division has earned numerous campaign streamers and decorations, reflecting its significant contributions to U.S. military operations. The division's emblem features a silver eagle with outstretched wings, symbolizing its readiness for action and its unwavering dedication to duty.
