Description/Blazon

A shield blazoned: Gules, a saltire Argent voided throughout per saltire Gray and Azure per cross counterchanged, with a fleur-de-lis Or in chief. Attached below and to the sides of the shield is a gold bipartite scroll inscribed "EVER" to dexter and "FORWARD" to sinister in black letters.

Symbolism

The blue and gray colors reflect the 116th's history as one of the original units of the 29th Division, symbolizing the nation's reconciliation and reunification following the Civil War. The red shield with the saltire cross, edged in blue and gray, denotes infantry service within the 29th Infantry Division. The gold fleur-de-lis commemorates the Regiment's service in France during World War I.

Background

The coat of arms was approved on April 19, 1924. It was amended to correct the blazon on October 19, 2016, and the symbolism was revised on July 14, 2023.
