355 Wing ACC (U.S. Air Force) The 355th Wing at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, is an air combat unit of the United States Air Force's Air Combat Command (ACC). It is responsible for training and readiness in the F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft. The wing's mission includes close air support, deep interdiction, offensive counterair, air interdiction, and air defense suppression. The 355th Wing was activated in August 2014 as part of a broader reorganization of the U.S. Air Force's training units. It replaced the 366th Fighter Wing, which had been the host wing at Mountain Home AFB since 1987. The new wing consolidated various training missions previously handled by several different wings across the base. The 355th Wing is organized into three groups: the 355th Operations Group (responsible for flying operations), the 355th Maintenance Group (in charge of maintaining and repairing aircraft and equipment), and the 355th Mission Support Group (providing essential services such as security, communications, and logistics). The wing's primary role is to prepare aircrew for combat readiness. This includes conducting advanced tactical flying training in various scenarios, such as close-air support, offensive counter-air, and interdiction missions. Additionally, the 355th Wing provides instructor pilots and weapon systems officers to other units within the Air Combat Command. The 355th Wing's F-15E Strike Eagles are multi-role fighters equipped with advanced avionics, sensors, and weapons systems that enable them to perform various missions effectively. The aircraft's versatility makes it a crucial asset for the U.S. Air Force in modern warfare scenarios. The 355th Wing plays an essential role in maintaining the readiness of the U.S. Air Force, ensuring its ability to respond rapidly and effectively to global crises and threats.
