The 40th Cavalry Regiment is an active regiment of the United States Army, falling under the umbrella of the Army National Guard. Originally established in 1891 as a mounted infantry regiment, it transitioned to a motorized cavalry role in 1921 and finally to an air defense artillery unit in 1956. After various name changes and reorganizations, the 40th Cavalry Regiment was reactivated in its current form in 2008.
