The 460th Space Wing is a unit of the United States Air Force, falling under the operational command of the U.S. Space Command's Air Forces. It operates primarily from the Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with additional detachments at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Established on April 1, 2021, following the reorganization of the 50th Space Wing, the 460th Space Wing is responsible for the command and control of nearly all GPS (Global Positioning System) satellites, as well as providing key support to other space-based capabilities. The wing's mission includes operating, maintaining, protecting, modernizing, and sustaining the GPS constellation, ensuring its availability for military, civilian, and international users worldwide. The 460th Space Wing also supports research, development, acquisition, and test activities related to space systems across various domains, including missile warning, navigation, space-based communications, and remote sensing.
