828th Evacuation Hospital, also known as 828th Medical Clearing Company, was a mobile field surgical unit of the United States Army active during World War II. Established in August 1942 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, it provided essential medical services to wounded soldiers on the front lines. The hospital unit participated in several significant campaigns including North Africa (Operation Torch), Sicily (Operation Husky), Italy, Normandy (D-Day), and the Battle of the Bulge. The 828th Evacuation Hospital disbanded after the end of World War II in Europe, but its legacy remains as a testament to the critical role medical units play in military operations.
