The 90th Space Wing is a unit of the United States Air Force (USAF) stationed at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is part of the Air Force Space Command and is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and protection of the Global Positioning System (GPS), Defense Satellite Communication System (DSCS), Milstar, Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS), and other space-based capabilities supporting the U.S. Department of Defense and allies worldwide. The wing's mission encompasses various aspects including space launch, missile warning, space control, technical intelligence, and cyber operations. The 90th Space Wing also supports civil search and rescue missions through the COSPAS-SARSAT program. The wing traces its lineage back to 1956 and has been instrumental in numerous milestones in the evolution of space technology, including the development of GPS.
