A.C. Brown (U.S. Civil War) A.C. Brown was an American naval officer who served during the U.S. Civil War, primarily in the Union Navy. Born on March 26, 1837, in New York City, Brown enlisted as a seaman in the United States Navy in 1855 and quickly rose through the ranks due to his competence and dedication. During the Civil War, he held various roles, including serving on the USS Kearsarge, where he was instrumental in the famous battle with the CSS Alabama in 1864. The Kearsarge's victory over the Confederate ship was a significant turning point in the war and greatly boosted the morale of the Union forces. After the Civil War, Brown continued his naval career, serving in various capacities until his retirement as a rear admiral in 1905. Throughout his long and distinguished service, he was known for his exceptional leadership and bravery. A.C. Brown passed away on July 27, 1917. His contributions to the Union Navy during the U.S. Civil War are still remembered and appreciated today.
