Bermuda Hundred is a historic region located in present-day Chesterfield and Colonial Heights, Virginia, United States. It played a significant role during the American Civil War, particularly as a strategic Union Army base. The area derived its name from the numerous hundred-acre tracts granted by the English Crown to early settlers in the 17th century. During the Civil War, Bermuda Hundred served as the site of several key battles and military operations, including the Battle of Drewry's Bluff (May 14-16, 1864) and the Battle of Chaffin's Farm (September 29 - October 1, 1864), both part of the Bermuda Hundred Campaign. Today, remnants of Civil War fortifications, trenches, and earthworks can still be found in this area, making it an important site for historical study and preservation.
