"Desert Storm" refers to Operation Desert Storm, a military operation sanctioned by the United Nations (UN) and led by an international coalition, primarily composed of troops from the United States and various Arab states. This operation took place in 1990–1991 against Iraq, following Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait. The primary objectives were to expel Iraqi forces from Kuwait and eliminate Iraq's capacity to develop and use weapons of mass destruction.
