Kagnew Station, also known as Asmara Station, was a significant U.S. military communications facility located in Eritrea, East Africa. Established by the United States Army Signal Corps in 1951 during the Cold War era, its primary function was to intercept and analyze Soviet and Eastern Bloc radio communications. The station also served as a vital link in the global telecommunications network for the U.S. military. The base closed in 1977 following Eritrea's independence from Ethiopia. Today, some parts of the station have been preserved as a historical site and museum, showcasing its role during the Cold War period.
