This class of cutters, officially known as the "Widebeam Patrol Cutters," are designed for law enforcement and maritime security missions in the coastal waters of the U.S. The Robert Ward WPC 1130 is named after Rear Admiral Robert H. Ward Jr., who served the USCG from 1962 to 1995. These vessels feature advanced technology, including a composite hull, stabilizers, and improved command and control systems. They are primarily used for patrol, search and rescue, and drug interdiction in the coastal regions of the U.S. The Robert Ward WPC 1130 was launched on May 27, 2016, and entered service with the USCG in February 2017.
