The USS Kitty Hawk CV 63 is an aircraft carrier that served in the United States Navy from its commissioning on October 25, 1961, until its decommissioning on September 24, 2009. Named after the site of the Wright Brothers' first powered flight, the Kitty Hawk was the eighth ship to bear this name in the U.S. Navy. During its service, it saw action in the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and various humanitarian missions. The vessel featured a conventional layout for an aircraft carrier, with a nuclear propulsion system and a flight deck capable of handling more than 70 fixed-wing aircraft. It was decommissioned due to budget cuts and aging equipment but remains an important part of U.S. naval history.
